So much of this BYOD seems to offer a very marginal convenience to the user while also offering significant cost savings to the employer. Before I let my employer anywhere near my personal devices I want a clear benefit to me, and being able to check my work email on the train home doesn't count as a benefit to me.
In the past I've allowed security software on my home PC so I could connect to the office although that was nothing more than a jumped up VPN client. It made precisely no difference to the operation of my PC and only provided a secure means of connecting to work. The benefit to the employer was there - I could make myself available by mutual agreement without having to travel to the office. The benefit to me was there - I could work from home some of the time and save myself the two hours of commuting (a side benefit was that instead of working 9-6 with an hour of travelling at each end I could work 8-6 with no travelling, so we both gained an hour). It worked every which way, far above giving me the rather dubious privilege of being able to work from home any time I choose.
