keep local control of everything we do for legal reasons, so do all my business clients.
Another option of course is don't use something that you have no control over when changes hit your user community.
Just thought I'd add a quick comment that Google's announcement of the shutdown of Google Reader as of July 1, 2013 is a classic example of cloud/web change.
The alternative / option I'll be using after that will likely be Feedly.com, assuming they will get their own RSS feed reader engine running. (If not, my backup alternative is Newsblur.com.)
