Windows 8 is the first MS OS which, on shutdown, powers off the monitor before disk activity has finished - to give the semblance of it shutting down "faster"! 
Unbelievable! On booting up, all network drives are only attached when they first get called up "on demand" so it looks like it's booting up faster! Jeez!
