Anyone with some successfull case using Xamarin? I'd really like to try it.
And I am pleased. Mostly because I know jQuery/JavaScript rather well and the learning curve was next to nothing compared with Java or Objective-C.
Why deal with two incompatible domains, when you can limit the task to just one.

My employer has banned Apple devices, and pushed our ICT dept to gear up to support Android devices. Java is used in many places throughout the company anyway, so there is no additional strain on the training budget.

This was given proper consideration: in tests Apple proved to be unreliable running basic COTS software, whilst we had trouble breaking Android (and we can break anything, given a little effort) even with ports of our own software.
We could not agree with you more about Hybrid applications!

The question however is what it takes to do this efficiently and cost effectively for business apps.

You still need a development tools that meets the following criteria:

The tool needs to be complete in terms of depth and breadth
----- Areas of completeness include:

Comprehensive reporting (HTML5,PDF,) complex business logic, SQL database access, web services support, reporting, charting, transactions, mapping, scheduling, security, images, video, reliability, performance, scalability.

Productivity is also very important as is extensibility. Other factors include flexibility and ease of hosting.

Finally - how difficult is it to wrap the Html5 in such a way that it is very easy for the developer to add photo and video support with compression and the ability to add images to the database record. Also it needs to be easy to add support for credit card processing, bar code or QR code scanning and other hardware specific functionality that is not available through HTML 5.

Have a look at Embarcadero's offering. They have taken the Delphi language and made it to compile native apps cross platform. Win32, Win64, Mac and IOS are already there. Android and Linux is on the way. The GUI is vector graphics driven. Seems like a compelling offering.
Hi,
I'd be very keen to how this product goes, especially using the Delphi language to build Apps on different platforms.
