I have no reason not to trust my workplace but I don't trust any company not to make lapses like that. The government here in Canada recently lost a portable hard drive containing 500 thousand student borrowers financial information, including SINs, names, birthdays despite having some draconian security measures.
About a year ago sony may have lost the credit card information of all their PSN customers.
It often still only take one person to make a mistake.
