Two Totally Different Tasks
Yes, I still see business cards on a regular basis. Even at very "techy" events. Beaming your information is just not something I see much of.

I cannot speak to card readers, although my father had memorized the zoom setting for the copier so your business card ended up maximized on an 81/2 X 11 piece of paper in your file and not falling out in the file drawer.

At to printing your own, DON'T. I am assuming you want to look professional. This means clean centered prints, crisp sharp edges, and if you really want the right look, raised print. Can you do this? Maybe 15 minutes and $10.00 is worth the time and money.

Some of the free or cheap online business card printers include their logo on the back. I want to advertize me, not VistaPrint.

Finally, unless you are an independent contractor or your own concern, you should be using your company's logos the way they intended. Some employers do not take well to "free styling" the corporate brand.
