After you comment I do not see anything that makes it impossible for MS do deprive WOA of all that coolness and the feeling is not good.

Start a new Discussion which is in no way related to the one that you where originally in.

was an attempt to keep discussions from getting too long by providing a mechanism to spawn a new discussion when the original one inevitably wandered off track. If a discussion on apples took a veer toward oranges, the poster could take his orange comment offlne as a new discussion. It was introduced in Jan 2011 when the new site format was rolled out, but hasn't really caught on. Long-time members feel its easier to put the off-topic content in context if it is still part of the original discussion, and that spawning the new 'offline' discussion in the Water Cooler removes it from easy access and visibility.
