and I get a fortune cookie. I bust it open and read,

"A clean tie attracts the soup of the day."

Amusing, but it violates the primary rule for interpreting fortunes.

Maybe I'm just being naive, but what is the primary rule for interpreting fortunes?
is that to understand their true meaning, you must append to the printed fortune the mystic words of comprehension...

"... in bed."

Alternatively, add "...between the sheets". Try either or both the next time you get one of those stale little proverb casings.

My two favorite fortunes that I have taped up on my monitor are:

"Nothing is a waste of time if you learn something from it"

"There's no point to being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes"

PS: anyone notice how crappy the new fortunes are? I wish I saved some of the horrible ones to give as examples
now that you know the code to unlock them? grin
THAT would be hilarious!

but it definitely gave me a giggle
That alone was worth starting this discussion. Note that the one of the comments mistakenly attributes this to 'Weird Al' Yankovic, but it isn't one of his.

I know in my lifetime of eating Chinese food, I've probably had a cat or two (not by choice) or maybe someone's dog Rover on a plate . shocked The secret is in their marinade process. You'll never know what kind of meat you're eating.

That's so untrue AV. Many years ago a friend had some Take Away Chinese and was raving about the little white bits in it that where delicious.

When he got to the bottom of the container the white bits where still wriggling and he knew exactly what they where. wink

Thought I'd see what's new right before going for lunch. Lesson learned, I guess.

Gross!

How ya been Col?
What Chinese cooking excels may be its ways of cooking e.g. steaming, while the western deep frying can cause overdose of fat.

sodium....not so much a chemical...but too much salt isn't good for you; causes high blood pressure that can often lead to heart attacks...and we wouldn't want that, we kinda like ya Palmy wink
as we definitely don't want you a-salted or too plain.

In the US, very little of what 'Chinese' restaurants cook is actually Chinese.

The more authentic Chinese food you can get. What a difference between that food and the standard Chinese fare they pass off elsewhere.

the further away I want to get from it.
