Problems viewing TR via Firefox?

Besides mudpuppy and I, is anyone else having problems viewing TR with FF?

+Clicking Edit, Reply, or Flag results in a spinning icon beside the link but the requested text boxes never open. They can be opened successfully if right-clicked and opened in a new tab.

+If viewing in 'Collapsed' mode, clicking a post title does not open the post. Using the Left and Right cursor keys will move through the posts, until you forget and click on a title; then they stop expanding the posts.

I started seeing these problems last week. I believe that's when FF updated from v17 to v18. I've cleared the cache and dumped my cookies ( ) to no effect. I'm having the same problems on FF at home, but not in IE.

Reply is just spinning, didn't want to flag your post... FF 18 as well.

I guess you have to downgrade.
I actually avoid upgrading firefox these days, they only seem to add bugs, never remove any.

and go to the post by jcanth. Rolling back to 17.0.1 has fixed the problems I described above.

that replies at Q&A and new discussions wouldn't post. I'd get a Page not found' error and when I try to send again I get the 'Duplicate post' error. But hours later the post is NOT there at all. I was ussing Fire Fox 16 on Zorin 5.

I upgraded to Zorin 6 (overdue for it) and ended up with Fire Fox 18. Then I couldn't read any posts in line, but they opened up in a new tab OK. I didn't even try to make any posts.

Today I'm at where I do some volunteer work and using their Win 7 Enterprise system. This reply is coming from MSIE 9 - the system also has Fire Fox 18 (upgraded in the last week). I have TR open in both browsere and there is a very dramatic difference in the look of the same page. FF is definately handling the Java in a very different manner to MSIE at the moment. However, I do note the Java Platform SE 6 U24 6.0.240.7 has been disabled by FF as ".... known to cause security or stability issues." - with a link to:

I'm going to install the new version of java and see what happens. I'll let you know when it's done.

then removed the old version - no change to how FF works. Have another machine I need to do this to and will remove first.

On the other three systems I deleted Java 6 first and then installed Java 7 - TR pages now appear the same in FF 18 and MSIE 9 and 10 (one system is still XP with IS 9). However, there is still two issues with the Java in FF 18.

It's clear you HAVE to delete 6 befor einstalling 7 as I still have issues on the system I added 7 before deleting 6.

1. If the list preference is in collapsed mode the title shows but I can't get the individual post to display inb line, it will display properly if opened in a new tab.

If I change the preference to 'expanded' then the posts all display.

2. Regardless of the display options above, the links for edit, reply, flag, and favorite do NOT work - they just sit and spin. Clearly there is still an issue on how FF 18 is handling these commands.

Firefox AND Internet Explorer. Neither will play nice in the connection between TR and me. I can log in okay, but when I try to post something, the green circle spins and spins, but no new window appears for me to post.

AND I can't open any message. I have to expand all of them in order to read any of them.

I almost gave up, but decided to try Chrome.

(Grrrrrr - Chrome works. Grrrrrr - I don't do Google!)

Every morning at 06.50 I get kicked off TR and am unable to log back in till somewhere around 07.00 My Time which is -10 Hours on GMT.

But starting today I got a full listings of replies to both Questions and Discussions that I'm subscribed to which has not been happening for quite a while now and because I predominately use IE under both XP and 7 I've not experienced any real Issues with postings though there are the normal ones that just end up in the Bit Bucket for unknown reasons but they don't seem to be more common than they have been in the past.

As yet I have not changed FF to the newest so maybe I'll sit back and ignore the update warnings that I've been seeing the past few days in light of what's been posted above.

However I have noticed some screwy issues. Like while chasing Spammers I click on their User Name get shown a list of their postings and when I click on Show all there is nothing. Several Page Refreshes may eventually bring up all of their posts but like for instance just now where I was going around deleting posts from clothesbiz10 I would click on a discussion that they have flag and then delete it and when I clicked on the back Button to be returned to the lists of their posts I would get a empty page which required several refreshes to get the listing up again.

Sometimes it would go back properly but most times it just went back to an empty page with no listings of their posts and when I went to delete the last of the 11 posts that they had made I could flag it but when I clicked on Delete nothing. Maybe there's someone else who's deleted it so it's right but then again maybe not.

At home this evening I was greeted by an update from FF 18 to 18.1. Unfortunately, this has made no difference; the same problems still exist. So far the only solution appears to be downgrading to 17.

It completely blocks your browsing if a plugin is out of date. (foxit in my case)

If you click the update link, it opens a new tab, that goes to the same stupid plugin out date page.
Try to load the addons page? Same thing, it redirects to plugins out of date.

I switched my Avant to use webkit. I'll do the same with all my installs.

went to chrome, works well with Windows, my Linux Mint box still holds Firefox 17 which works well.

Will have to give Avant a look, thanks for the note.

for the tip, I have been test driving Avant Browser and it is indeed sweet.

but that may be as a result of using 3.6.28

I think they dropped the ball with v.4. and up
so I refused the updates whenever they popped up the dialog

and the last time I saw an update notice was around v. 11 or 12
I received an update dialog which Threatened me with a forced update at next browser start

and the previous update dialog had stated my XP x64 OS was not supported anymore (actually it never was) and I wouldn't be able to update to v.10

it was after the Threat of forced update that I disabled all Firefox update checks on all my systems

the only issues I have are because of security settings, add-ons & preferences I use and not the browser specifically
eg. the + / - vote buttons have never worked, and always goes to page not found when clicked

Thanks to everyone who posted to this thread. We notified our engineering team about this issue, and one of our engineers filed a bug with Mozilla. Firefox 18.0.1 appears to be having issues with the JavaScript framework we use. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do to fix it. We'll keep you posted.

This site is a disaster. Seems that some changes where made within the last 12 hours or so and I'm not able to log into the site from the discussion threads or questions I have to go to the Join TR and maybe then I can log in.

The same is happening in FF17, Ad avant and Opera the current versions under both XP and 7. I've noticed this late last night when I had 7 open and was having a quick look. I'm also not getting any notifications of any Spam I flag but this has been going on since 25 January.

Also pages are loading very slowly and worse when I type anything in letters go missing as the site seems way too slow to accept any input.

Everything seems to be working right in Win 7 at the moment.

I can log in and post without a problem which is radically different to earlier today. Not sure about XP at the moment as I'm not logging out of this OS and back into XP till tomorrow morning. What can I say I'm lazy.

I miss my old XP machine.. I only have a netbook that still has XP on it (and that still runs IE 5). I do still have a running laptop that has Win 98 (the screen went out years ago so I have to hook it up to a monitor when I use it, which is rarely - normally just to see if it still boots.)

Because I am sure 20 has added more problems than it has solved.
I have adblock now for Chrome.
I am going to have to see if there is a replacement for noscript, web of trust, and perspectives for Chrome as well.

Too bad Chrome still seems slower than firefox.

on my netbook, WinXP SP3, Opera 12.15 32 bit...reserving judgment til I've stressed it a bit more. Wasn't that impressed with 12.14, but there were a few sites that didn't play nice with 11.64.

So, back to using 11.64, for the time being. Had several instances of a tab not closing, the contents left on display in perpetuity (much like many TOS statements about content you upload to various services), but no link is active, the close button doesn't work, keyboard non-responsive, but only in the tab I tried to close. I am still hesitant to even try a new Opera when they change browser/Javascript engines to Google's "Blink", to me that's just another Google Chrome with a new skin, much like all the so-called "browsers" we had in the late 90's early 2000's that were just a skin for MSIE.
Anywho...YMMV.

Cause I hate the minimalist skins of firefox, chrome and IE.

They all seem so slow, prone to locking up while they work in the background. They all use huge memory for no apparent reason.
I have 3 chrome tabs open and it has spawned 8 processes totally about 250mb of RAM. And I have 2 tabs in firefox, totalling another 300mb of RAM.
By comparison, outlook 2010 is using 40 mb of ram. Even with my 8gb inbox.

Not sure how, I ritually never update anything, and yet somehow I got FF20.
I don't even use FireFox.

Well one OS that I don't use all that much and as a direct result I'm no longer able to log into TR.

Seems that Windows Update broke TR.

and I'm actually surprised at how quick it is. That notebook is only an old Compaq Presario CQ62, 2 gig ram 320 gig HD, Intel Celeron...IE9 ran "OK", but so far IE10 is much better, I can even log on to TR! I've even slowed on my Opera 11.64 usage on that one. Must be something "down under" that broke your TR, Col, hehe! Are you holding it wrong? Oh, never mind, it's not an "iGadget"...LOL

are you perchance using 64 bit Windows 7? My old notebook is running 32bit Windows 7 and IE10...there were reports in the past of problems with the 64bit IE on Win7, so, if you are running 64 bit, might try the 32 bit version of IE10 and see if that makes a difference.
Note: this is just a "best guess" type of solution, I have no way of testing it. Just thought I'd throw it out for a possibility.
