No Friday jokes, no geekend, what happened to this place!?

and discovering it now only sells business applications.

I have it on good authority that Geekend was not followed and as TR is concentrating on it's Business Needs and we the Rock Stars are the Customers we are getting exactly what we want which means wasteful things like Geekend are gone. [/sarcasm]

The reality however is that what made TR so worthwhile is rapidly disappearing and while I can sort of live with the Site Downgrades with the occasional improvement thrown in the disappearance of the Off Topic Threads is what kept me returning all of the time. I fear that we'll end up being just another bunch of Techs who is believed that we have no interest outside of IT and will be an excuse to remove all of the Non IT subjects that TR was so famous for.

While it may in the short term improve Hits to the Site it will none the less destroy the Sense of Community that is what made TR what it was and will eventually lead to it's demise.

There seem to be plenty of resources to create and edit two versions of some articles - one in a single-page format, and another in the much-protested slideshow format. Check the comments on most slideshows and see how many of them complain about the layout.

I miss Geekend. One of the things that kept me coming back to TechRepublic, and now I hardly come here anymore.
