My feeling is as follows:

1. If I ever got a counter-offer of just more money, I'd be insulted--and need to quickly suppress words like "you should have been paying me that before--but now that I know what you think of me, I'd like to tell you..."

2. I once had a chance to move to another team within my company. I let me then manager talk me out of it. He lied and two years later, with no raises or promised bonuses, I'm not eligible to work for the other team... I missed the chance.
If you feel like going--and you've thought about it carefully (prayed for guidance, meditated, whatever). Just go.
