TQM Guru Deming has suggested a very good comprehensive template for defining WORK or Process, Suppliers & Input items and Output items & Customers. An attached table "Input Process Output" clearly identifies the above and adds quality parameters to each.

That template with I-P-O Table systematizes customer involvement, definition and agreement on quality parameters of output (deliverables), Process (internal) and input. It can be applied at different levels of the organization to interlink objectives, strategy, mission etc.
