I wouldn't hire you
Your reply indicates that you cannot think past what is put in front of you. All advice is to be taken in context - and you apply the parts that are applicable to your situation. The writer never said don't ask about money, and don't ask about advancement. It was stated that this was better left for the 2nd interview. Obviously if you are applying for a really technical job - you need to talk tech. The writer cautioned against talking tech to the wrong person.
As previous comments have indicated - answer the questions presented - don't offer up too much unrelated information.
In interviews - you need to be able to think on your feet and adapt your answers to the person or people that are interviewing you.
For example - one interview I had the manager had a very detailed list of questions that he asked me, in order, and other visible "to do" lists spread out around him. When he asked me how I stayed organized - I said "lists". I got the job.....
