I agree with the author's list of mistakes. I'll add one more: Don't forget to ask for the job.
Many years ago at the conclusion of a great interview, the hiring manager asked, "There's one thing you forgot to mention. Do you know what that is?" I couldn't think of anything.
He said, "You forgot to ask me for the job." I was embarassed at the moment but have been very grateful since.
So after you've pitched the propective employer on your valuable skills don't forget the reason you're there. If you want the job, don't be shy. Make it clear by asking for it. Can you imagine a politician campaigning but not asking for your vote?
