Linux will rule
yes sir that's a fair asessment of Linux. but remember that once a person IS trained on Linux and once a server IS configured properly, the savings for using Linux FAR outstrip the upfront costs.

it's sort of like using solar electricity - you pay up front, but after a period of time you save far more on the back end.

i think you need to do a total cost of ownership and then you will see that Linux is the better choice. for example, i am a sys admin and the biggest pain for me is tocontinually monitor and manage servers, so it is a GREAT relief to be able to set up Linux servers and then take a break for a few months (12 months even!!). so your quality of LIFE greatly improves and you now have that free time to delve deeper into the inricacies of sys admin or learn another tool. NT/2000 requires FAR more monitoring and 'baby-sitting' - but 2000 has gotten better. in these days of cutbacks and cost-savings, Linux will look better and better and better as hard times continue to sweep through corporate America!! i advise you to step back and survey the near future and re-consider the viability of Linux. also, look at the adoption of Linux in GRADE SCHOOL by our trading partners (and competition) in China, Mexico, Europe and other parts of Asia. while our school kids get doped up, much of the world is mastering Linux as children! remember the state of MS Windows in the early days! Linux allows the people of the world to unite and put in their collective efforts into Linux
