Do any of you really care if Bill Gates gets richer? I sure don't. More power to him, I say.
Total Cost of Ownership isn't everything. Some people are willing to pay a bit more for the added features, benefits, support available for Windows 2000.
For example, we were having a problem installing Linux on a machine the other day, so we called Red Hat support. The genius on the other end of the phone told us to "Install Windows 2000 first. If that works, call us back."
After we laughed for 15 minutes straight about having linux support tell us to install windows, we did, and it worked flawlessly. Next, we wiped it out and tried Linux again. It never worked, and the problem turned out to be that Red Hat 7 didn't support the motherboard we were using. It took their techs 2 days (count em) 2 days to find that out for us.
I realize that I have some learning curve with Linux, that is why we bought it. But I don't feel very confident with the sort of support I was given. Thank god it's free for 60 days. MS support sucks too, but I can go to a 3rd party and get superior Windows support if needed.
