Another tidbit
When installing and using multiple adapters, it is often wise to set priority to the adapter you wish to have the best communcation across.
Open the Network Communications folder, choose the Advanced menu at the top. Choose advanced settings. On this screen, you can list your network adapters (and the services that use them) in order of priority (which to use or check first when contacting a network). An area where this is noticeable:

One connected to Internet, other to LAN
Select the Internet connect adapter
Move to top of list
This will give priority when performing lookups (DNS, etc) and will speed internet use.
Since the LAN is typically high speed, it does not always need to have the highest priority like a slower internet connection does.
Also, uncheck any unused protocols on a per nic basis
