RE: Set up multiple network interfaces in Windows XP
I can see the idea of the topic above. But what I'm really wanting to do is have 2 home networks, separate of one another. One that my dad uses between his laptop and desktop and one that I use between my laptop and desktop. I used the little network wizard that comes with XP to set mine up and it worked fine. I just used the default names the wizard gave when I set mine up and it has worked fine. Trying the same thing on my dads two computers, I changed the name of the network, and computer names using the wizard (so as he would not be on mine) and so on. There are about 5 simple steps in the wizard and on my network I just ran it on both of my computers, using all defaults values the wizard gave and it worked on mine, it's been working for a couple of years now. When finished it ask if you need to make a set-up disk for the other computers or just finish. Since having XP on all the computers, we just used the wizard on both of his, figuring it would work the same with his as did mine.
We are using a cable modem, run through a Linksys 4 space, wireless router. He wants his to work as mine has by using his laptop (wireless) and his desktop (wired). The exact same as my set-up that has worked fine for me. Again, we do not want to be able to get on each others networks or share any files or printers between the two. Just two separate networks through the same router. All computers in house are XP Home SP2. My laptop (Toshiba) and his (Dell) are both wireless and my desktop and his desktop are both hard-wired Any Ideas?
