Who needs a laptop?: A removable hard drive does for me more than any laptop could do. It's small, inexpensive, compatible with virtually any computer I may wish to plug it in to (ok, somtimes that involves a screwdriver, but I always carry anyway) and I can use it as a backup medium at the same time. Wherever I go there is a functional computer and all I need is my data with me.
