Need my tools: Before I began using a laptop as my main computer a couple jobs ago I would have thought "Who needs one?" What I found out was the *I* needed one.
I spend most of my time at my desk, but I do get called out to other buildings fromtime to time. Being able to get to administration tools when I'm away from my desk is very convenient, well worth the trouble of changing a couple network settings if I'm on a different subnet.
When it's crunch time, I also like the option of being able to write code at home while I'm sitting on the couch with my family watching TV. It isn't the best alternative and it doesn't happen that often, but it beats spending my crunch time completely at the office. I've never felt a compulsion todo work just because my laptop is at home with me.
