Most BIOS manufacturers build in default security passwords. At:
http://www.ping.be/bios/HTML1/faq.html
at number 17 you can find some of them for every BIOS manufacturer.
Far better solution than removing batteries !

I had to remove the password (that nobody knew) on a PackardBell Pentium 3 weeks ago and I used a little program called BIOS Cracker. It removed the password and I reset the values and everything was fine. The registered version will show the actualpassword.
Of course, ideally, it's always good to save or note any special settings that may affect performance BEFORE a pasword is forgotten and you have to revert back to default settings. Otherwise, hopefully the user has a manual for the motherboard, or some idea of what the best settings are for the system before they clear the CMOS.
Bios crack is too small to be noticed just 20Ko! If you need it and you cann't find on the net just tell me, i will be glad to send it over, it's in english even though i'm in france,

It is important to note that when we are talking about BIOS passwords we are not talking about the passwords which are needed after you have Windows or some other OS up and running to access a specific folder. BIOS passwords are for setting BIOS parameters, or for booting the OS in the first place. There are other approaches required to crack Windows or other OS passwords.
A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.
B. By Using Software:
I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds
