Most BIOS manufacturers build in default security passwords. At:
http://www.ping.be/bios/HTML1/faq.html
at number 17 you can find some of them for every BIOS manufacturer.
Far better solution than removing batteries !

I had to remove the password (that nobody knew) on a PackardBell Pentium 3 weeks ago and I used a little program called BIOS Cracker. It removed the password and I reset the values and everything was fine. The registered version will show the actualpassword.
Of course, ideally, it's always good to save or note any special settings that may affect performance BEFORE a pasword is forgotten and you have to revert back to default settings. Otherwise, hopefully the user has a manual for the motherboard, or some idea of what the best settings are for the system before they clear the CMOS.
Bios crack is too small to be noticed just 20Ko! If you need it and you cann't find on the net just tell me, i will be glad to send it over, it's in english even though i'm in france,

loss bios password I have tryed everthing to bring it up. could someone help me with this I really need some help with it. thanks doug
It is important to note that when we are talking about BIOS passwords we are not talking about the passwords which are needed after you have Windows or some other OS up and running to access a specific folder. BIOS passwords are for setting BIOS parameters, or for booting the OS in the first place. There are other approaches required to crack Windows or other OS passwords.
A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.
B. By Using Software:
I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds

Hey jamil, I read ur post and wonder if you have an extra copy of that crack ive been trying to find one to reset the bios on my HP Pavilion. thanks jamil.
There is the unfortunate case where you purchase used hardware, and then find that the bios is locked the first time you need to change something. Often you have no documentation to which to fall back. It is especially irritating if there is also no jumper to short in order to remove it.
I had laptop(Toshiba setllite model no.:ps267u-4k9j0) .I forget my bios password .Please help me to recovery this password .

If it's an administrator password, (ie.can get to a prompt, but can't get into the BIOS)then boot with a startup disk that has the debug command on it. Type:
debug
-o 70 10
-o 71 20
-q
Then reboot and when you get into the BIOS, you have to save changes, otherwise access is only temporary.
I always have one of these disks handy. But they do no good if it's a user password and you can't get to a prompt.

I know its in assembly language.
But what exactly does each line do?
Will appreciate it if u could be
more articulate.
Thanks.

Sorry TeponBo, I found this on the internet a couple years ago and haven't seen reference to it since. It is a well kept secret, but extremely easy and useful. I can't believe it's not a well-known fix.
Erm.. That's 'cos it's not a fix.
Not one of the motherboards on my network will allow me to boot to any kind of operating system, call me stupid, but I thought that was the idea of a passworded bios.... that you are secure in as much as you can't access any of PC without the password, and as long as the Hardwarwe is physically secure (the case is locked, and bolted down) then no unautorised user is able to tamper with the PC without it becoming evident.
Once you have access to either thehardware or the software, then the security is diminished, so Sysadmins should be the only ones able to open the box, and Users bios passwords should be different to the admin level passwords, (thereby preventing ordinary users from being able to change anything but the most basic functions on the PC.
No one can completely secure a PC without having restraints in place in the physical world, to prevent users from booting to floppys and CD's and running malicious programmes (such as debug!) you need to make the system only bootable to the hard disk, and put in as much security as possible. (The more security however, the more you will annoy your users, meaning that you need to bring about a degree of trust with your users (Even AnonymousInternet Users have a certain degree of trust, although it's occasionally misplaced!)

There are several different types of BIOS security. What she was referring to was being able to change the BIOS settings if a user forgot the admin BIOS setting. A PROM password will not let you boot from the floppy, use the keyboard/mouse, etc until you have the correct password -- thus you cannot use debug. She stated this and yet you blasted her! There are other ways around PROM passwords that don't require you to open the machine. Keep in mind, the security of your network is solely dependant on the ignorance of the users of it!
You just said it, trust, with the most complicated security meseaures you can apply without trust, the are worthless.Bios password or not.
Dear brother I have Dell CP x laptop doesn't boot at all without the password.I've paid ?400 for it&stuck with it.Please help if you can./////
It's not assembly, it's a debug command.
-o aa bb means
-o = output
aa = port
bb = byte
So, what you're doing is outputting bytes to ports 70 and 71. I don't know the details of the port numbers or byte value meanings, but clearly they overwrite enough of the password area to allow you access.
You can see the debug commands by opening a DOS window, typing 'debug', and then at the debug prompt type a question mark. This will list the commands.

You could learn SO MUCH from those old PC Magazine, PC Tech Journal, BYTE and other magazines by entering in the Assembler Code, and they came with a LOT of useful utilities. When they stopped printing the articles, I stopped subscribing.
debug works because it forces the cmos to go back to factory (defauld) settings, because it see it is not ok anymore and try`s to recover it by setting it all back.
on internet (google) u can find how to do it whit debug.
I tested it myself on some pc's and it workt fine.
but if u can't use debug of it simly don't works u can try to find a standard bios password (if u cant manualy reset it by jumper, removing battery)
but if u have a hot laptop and u can't find a password and no1 helps u u can only replace the bios $$
(if u can)
If u can't trow away the mainbort and buy a new pc.
Infdrayn.

If you want to know what a command does in DEBUG, start DEBUG and type ? and ENTER. The Q command exits debug.
debug
-o 70 10
-o 71 20

This series of commands sends a hex 10 byte to port 70, and a hex 20 byte to port 71.
"Ports" are numbered entities that various devices on the bus respond to. Example: 3F8 is the port the o/s writes bytes to when communicating via, or setting up, COM1. There's a port in the low 100's you could send bytes to that would make the PC speaker buzz. There's another that isn't read by anything except motherboard manufacturer's test equipment, a port that the current POST status is written to. Stick a little board on there with a chip to decode the I/O port address, and another to drive a pair of 7-segment LED displays, and the LED's, and it will track the progress of the power-on-self-test. Look the codes displayed up in a mb manual and the number it stalls on will tell what component failed POST.
I/O ports and IRQ's make the world go round in your pc.

How did you get the the boot disks? I am having problems with trying to clear an Admin password, and have used the backdoor method to no use. Also by getting to a prompt to do the debug, did you go to the command prompt in Windows or???? Help please!
