I had someone who had a word 97 document acting very bizarre - it would view in portrait mode (wrongly), and preview in landscape mode, and print in landscape mode. After many fits and tries, I saved the document as a Word 6.0 document. Then I went back into Word 97 and opened up the word 6.0 document. All was well. The same thing works with other types of programs. Saving to a previous version ensures that your data will still be there, but trims out the newer functions from your file and hopefully, the errors within your file.
