Yeah, I Can Tell...
I can see that you are new to this "game", Wombat. For most of us that have been in the IT racket for a while it's quite easy to visualize the line between IT folks and users. Are we better than them? In our field, yes (and maybe in some others); just as they may be better accountants or engineers than we. The important thing, however, is that this is the year 2001. To be an effective employee today people MUST possess basic computer skills. It is simply not value-added work for me to take newbies by the hand and show them how to send an email. I have no patience or sympathy for users who refuse to help themselves or follow instructions. ?Right on!? to jpayne@rrsc.com for reminding us that it is IT?s job to backup the data. My network is backed up nightly. I have made it clear to my users that if the data is important, it will get saved to a network location. Workstations are never backed up; my users will not be spoon-fed.
