A hard choice, Sibelius is my favorite, but for a late night out with computers, it has to be Grieg. Turns the computer room into a Norwegian landscape.

Great to hear someone else is driven by Norwegian
composers. My favorites are Sibelius' "Finlandia",and "Hall of the Mountain King" from Grieg's "Peer Gynt".
For sheer force, try Carl Nielson's "Symphony #3"
(especially the Bernstein-conductedversion).

Anybody with any musical education knows that Sibelius is Finnish, not Norwegian.
And yes, it does matter.
Love the music!

In your face brass and percussion. Nothin' better to get the ticker tickin'.
So many of my favorites have been posted, already, so it's a little hard to come up with one favorite !!
A little slow at times, but the Breakfast in America album is great.....
I have MP3ed most of my albums and simple crank them up on MusicMatch....plays for hours...

Fleetwood Mac/Fleetwood Mac, Led Zepplin (any), AC/DC Back in Black or the first one, or any GOOD 80's rockin music!!! Too much good stuff to choose from just one. I like variety.
While my YEPP is loaded with everything from Mack the Knife, Tomita and Mama Tried by Merle Haggard, for those certain times when users are howling for Sysadmin Blood (lunar cycles I think) I just have to be able to listen to Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff. The words are perfect. Gets my attitude back....
Dark Side is Great but for late night, after midnight music, the Animals CD is Best.
What other band would know how to keep me awake except these guys! They are the greatest!
It would have to be Tommy buy the WHO. Then The Wall by Floyd and third would be Hot Rocks - by the Stones because Mic moves me!
The other two choices you made were superb, but I gotta disagree with you about Tommy. In my humble opinion it's gotta be Who's Next when you talk about The Who. Nothing like hearing Baba O'Riely at 3A.M. to get your blood pumpin' again!
When such circumstances are dropped upon me, I must resort to my much-antiquated clubbing days of years ago where we would listen to pulsating 4 on the floor rhythms for 10-12 hours at a click. The predictability and structure of the music lifts my mood while leaving my awareness intact. Also, when coding I can only tolerate such music as anything less structured serves only to distract. Furthermore, it forces all of my coworkers to find a place far away from me to work. Some of us will never grow mentally old, and I am happy to be one of them...
That Pulse CD that is advertised does the same for me. I bought it for my daughter so that Daddy can sneak it away for just such an emergency.
(now, try to get that tune out of your head)...
I know they're all double albums (ie:
cheating), but they're all so great! Beatles
White, Cream/Clapton Wheels of Fire, Hendrix
Electric Ladyland. So there!

This 3 record set has kept me going nights for years, even before I had to stay up for **work**. First I bought it on vinyl in the early 1970's, then 8-track, then cassettes made from the vinyl, then CD's, and finally today in MP3 form made from theCD's...
Only the best band ever... and Yessongs is a great album to work through the night with. I like to crank up "Yours is no disgrace"!
Cool old tech music. Odd to think that this is the future they envisioned.
Mahal. I hate limits, 40 characters or one CD. Since I had to come up with one this one is as good as any of 1,000 I could name if my life depended on it. Better than most even. However, let me say this, I would never allow myself to be put in the position of having to choose just one, how unAmerican
.
Peace
Michael
let the music keep our spirits high
let the buildings keep our children dry
let creation reveal her secrets by and by
when the light that's lost within us
reachesthe sky

Well, it motivates me. It's one of the CDs I keep on site. Close seconds would be Pretty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral, or else Type O's Bloody Kisses.
This has a good mix of metal, techno and just really fun music to keep me going. But the best song on it is "My turn to fly"
This album simply rocks. And in the wee hours of the morning, you want something that rocks but also has some excellent guitar riffs to strum along to. Tunes and a little aerobic exercise strumming along with Mark Tremonti just gets the blood going to finish the home stretch.
Heart is cool, If you are working magic with the servers why not Magic Man.
It's a pulse pounding album.
I also include The Wall, Zeppelin II and IV, and the rest of Metallica's albums.
Whenever I need to get my self up and motivated these are the ones I reach for.

I too find myself gravitating to log-term friends to help me through those looooong nights (or days into nights) when it seem all hell is breaking loose, nothing is going right, and somehow, someway, it comes together - I do nelieve that IT folks pull more rabbits outa hats than all the magicians in the world. Course, we don't have a audience that oohs and ahhhs at our feats of virtual magic extrodinaire.
We don't get all their albums, but their lyrics take the seriousness of a rebuild out the door!
Yes, I like that too. And a lot of old Rock, Pink flyod and Uma Guma also.. Right ON!

Don Williams - to calm down, get the fingers back on the keyboard.
Shania Twain - That don't impress me mutch....., to get back in the reality
Mike Headrick - steel guitar - just the sound makes me going on for hours....

When pulling an all nighter this album will keep you awak and rearing to go........
Mr. Fripp and company have powers to keep the ol' adreneline pumping!
Yes, indeed! It's nice to know that someone else out there appreciates King Crimson.
As a woman the only thing that can pump me up faster than brewing a 12 pot cup of coffee using 2 cups of coffee grounds is Indigo Girls Shaming of the Sun.
I know it's too late...but what the hell.
NIN deserved to be voted for on this one!

Personally I have not seen any love given towards the Hackers soundtrack. Both the Matrix and Hackers soundtracks give IT frustration a voice.
This band eats all other bands for breakfast. If this band doesn't wake you up then you are dead.
It's been a few years since I was on tech support, but if I was there now, it would be into battle with Russ and the Gladiator sounstrack! Oddly, I still haven't seen the movie yet, but LOVE the music...
Pink Floyd's 'Pulse' album would be the next choice - 2CD set, includes DSotM live.
