I used Win Grep very happily for months before this came up. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the registry keys that contained my preferences remained so I searched it until I found it and deleted it. I reinstalled and all is well. The wizard search is pretty stupid, but the advanced option is so fast and instantly finds line numbers and previews up to 5 lines above and below each match. Perfect for my programming work.

I figured this one out for myself, but you could always read the instructions on the Windows Grep download page! When you download V2.3 and unzip it, you need to copy the extracted file (grep32.exe) into the location where you installed Windows Grep V2.2 and overwrite the existing 'grep32.exe'.When you searched for 'cio32.DLL', did you look on your local drive? You'll find the DLL in the Windows Grep program folder.

If you take the time to download 2.2 per this article you will likely be dissapointed. The program walks you through the basic search (which by the way does not know about the Excel .xls extension), then it spins for a while 'counting' files. Thenit disappears - I mean gone - not in task manager or hidden process - nothing - just gone! Not to be outsmarted by software, I figured that this was probably due to my running Win2000 Pro.I read where there were issues with Win2k and the 2.2 release, so I found the site again and downloaded 2.3 - unzipped it and then ran the application.Viola! The dynamic link library CIO32.DLL could not be found in the specified path ......Where could this file be? I know, I'll search Microsoft TechNet and support sites.Nope. Microsoft never heard of this .dll, even if I change the O to a zero, nada.Enough is enough, if you want to appear to be busy at the PC, this is for you! Otherwise I could have opened every one of my spreadsheets by now and found the budget from last year.I'm sure there is an explanation for what happened, it's just that I wont be around to find out what it is. As a MIS director, I need to evaluate shareware quickly and ascertain the usefulness. If I can't get it to work, there is no way my artsy graphic designers are going to figure it out.
