overlooked Benefits of employee
While this article spent a lot of time discussing the benefits and flexibility offered by a contractor, it did not spend equal time discussing some benefits that only a full time employee can offer. I feel the author was biased in their reporting.
One should also consider that a full time employee would:
1. Be more familiar with the company's operation and personality and be likely to suggest project specs that conform more to the company's interests.
2. Be able to take on or assist with other projects spontaneously at no extra charge.
3. Already be intimately familiar with a project when future changes are requested. (A new consultant has to examine the application.)

These are important things to consider as well. For a growing company that frequently needs applications built in the same technology, it might make more sense to hire a full timer.
