Loads of Fun
jgarner@... 23rd May 2001
Besides making money it is fun to do. I have written code for industrial robots and it is a lot of fun to watch them do their thing. You have to give a load of thought to every possible failure mode because you don't get BSOD you get broken hardware. sad At 20 feet per second bad things happen real fast. I am itching to do a battle bot for some real fun.

Don't limit yourself to just "robots" -- industrial automation is a wide-ranging discipline, and there are lots of little niches to fill. Visit industrial trade fairs for various industries and see what kinds of products they need.

The big demandis for generalists who know software, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. The number of people who can competently do all 3 is vanishingly small.
I got a masters degree in mechanical engineering in 1991 hoping to go into the robotics industry. Couldn't do it. It's an industry that the US mostly exported to Japan years back. Few US companies make robots. Stick to more generic IT stuff. The skills are much more portable.

Robotics software
Anbu 6th Sep 2001
I did Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering hoping to get in Robotics Industry, things changed as I was placed in IT firm.
I had experience in doing a project in Robotics Simulation, for this I used Deneb Simulation software. Now its Delmia. The software I used was IGRIP. It was a good experience to see virtual robots on work!

Promising IT career path! You've got to be insane. Invest my hard earned money and throw away my life again so the US Congressional GOON SQUAD and the Presidential ***** can break the back of the "professionals" in the industry with another 600,000 Indian and Asian government paid for "PhDs". You smoke too much weed Weinstein.
