with a work environment that encourages productivity, I have to agree that your attitude would be considered inappropriate in almost every business that I consult to.
The one exception may not be so for long, but I cannot say.
It is, again, entirely correct for this article to say that you need to "shut up and soldier". Any soldier above the rank of Private is doing his job to ensure that the activity he is ordered to undertake is sensible. That means that he has a right to question and provide input. It does not and never will, at least in a miltary that is not disintegrating, mean that he has a right to ignore every order to come down the pipe.
That right is reserved for orders that are clearly illegal.
Back to your statements about steering the ship. I would hope that you mean the IT infrastructure. I can agree that you are the expert, but, unless your company is an IT company, you will never steer the business direction. Thus, you "high and mighty" attitude is inappropriate in this case.
