The much better option is guidance/consulting approach. Consultation, i.e addressing particular questions in hand, is always preferred over hand-holding/coaching/ongoing mentoring. 'Consultative approach' is a very desirable approach in all circumstances. This provides one with the required scope for personal development without adversely affecting relationships.
