I'm quite surprised that SpamAssassin is not on this list... After all, it is one of the most used solutions out there today...
POPMail - popmail.sourceforge.net - is a highly configurable and economical option, too - and can be deployed on the server or workstation.
Not including the leading open source spam killer is a really a blunder, guys.
Yes, it has its limitations; chiefly, its relatively cumbersome upgrade methods. But it is a VERY effective spam filter and given its price, it would be hard to make a better business case for another package.

We have a future charticle in the works that will cover free spam products that are available.
The one my company went with was Corvigo Mailgate, about which I have raved numerous times here at TR. Sorry it was not included.
The Sniffer subscription has been a powerful addition to our Mail server and it is only $30.00 USD per month.

This article has a good joke. The first spam was NOT sent by Einar Stefferud. It was *reported* by Stefferud, a well-known Internet pioneer who was then the moderator of the MsgGroup -- where the message was sent by DEC marketing rep to every Arpanet address on the west coast.
