Agree with you 100% about service. Too many managers have the childish attitude that the people who report to them exist to be counted, in order to justify the manager's importance on higher levels. Then they wonder why they would be embarrassed if those people found out their salary. If your value to the people doing the work is at least equal to your value to management, your organization will be better for it.
