Forget Age. What knowledge do you have?
I am 68 and I am still designing and implementing Databases that run both in Windows and in DOS systems. This is a very valuable knwoledge nowadays where data warehousing and data mining are essential techniques in creating reports for grants funding at the Federal and State level. Even though technology has advanced quite a bit, management forces are still living about 20 years behind and they need serious support for understanding the application of computer technology to management. They would rather relegate that responsibility to and old person like me than give it to an imature employee that may not have enough experience to know the difference. Management capability is something that takes time to learn and is not quite fully learned at any University. The utilization of modern computer technology within the management skills is even more difficult to grasp and I have not seen an effective training being used at any university so far.
Admitedly, I have lost many of my young person's abilities (such as good memory) and I have difficulties in learning new technologies but even at that being true, I am still able to keep abreast of most of the staff that makes the bulk of the management of my company. I am admired and respected for my knowledge and experience.
