There used to be a TV show, "Name that Tune" or something like that, in which contestants got a chance to test their skill against another by betting they could guess the name of a song by hearing the least number of notes, a snippet of the song in question. Yes, it is always possible to perform a task, faster, using less resources or disregarding fall-back paths. The manager may have specific reasons for choosing a "slower" method. Kind like my old math teacher would say..."Show your work". Wehave all had to cleanup after some "whiz-Kid" that didn't document.
