to ensure the long term retention of clients it is essential to make sur that the initial sales are dealt with inteligently. so often, in these days of commision led sales it is too tempting for the customer to be sold the system that carries the most commision points and gets a placing in the monthly sales competition for the trip to Bali. so often when the customer calls for advised on product setup has been sold an inappropriate solution and we hav to advised that it is not suitable for the application in mind. this causes a predictalbe level of annoyance, and it is unlikely that the salesman will g et the repeat business.
Sometimes a project that seems to be limited turns into a longer project. Sometimes a client that seems to have just one small job to do turns into a big client with ongoing jobs to do. I do some work with agencies and some work with my own clients. The best attitude for me and those who represent me is that any seemingly small opportunity can someday be a much larger one.
There are very few clients I have worked with that I will never work for again, and many times I am delighted to be greeted by a contact in an assignment to which the agency has sent me with: "I remember you, you did ---." It is very encouraging when those with whom you have worked know you are coming back and look forward to working with you. Just keep thinkingof the client's best interest and most will appreciate it.
