Over 60
irv 14th Feb 2001
If you are over 60, and you have a pre-existing condition, and you can find a group policy who will take you on, expect $300-600 per mo per person. Don't bother with HIPPA (life after COBRA). My COBRA insurance at $360/Mo for my wife and I was quoted (CIGNA) at $1240 per month. Check your state for group coverage for uninsurable self-employed, or professional organizations.
Good Luck

This is an interesting article, with a good overview of the insurance topic. However, not all of the readers are in the U.S.A., so keep in mind that the sites listed, and some of the options, do not apply in other countries.

I have been an indie IT consultant for 1.5 years (after 20 years in the biz, half as an IT Director), and I have a health insurance policy with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Its a great comprehensive policy with a higher deductible (highly recommend the high deductible - mine is $2500) and it offers 100% coverage after the deductible. But due to pre-existing conditions for my wife and youngest child, they are on a different, less than desirable policy which increases our total insurance cost due to the need for a separate policy that is more expensive as well). Keep that in mind when searching for family coverage.
Great information!

Actually most of the sites that can be found on google top pages does not offer cheap prices on health insurance. If you want to find really cheap prices, you'll have to search more...

I spend almost a month, searching cheap sites that offer health insurance, and I found only a few ...

Here is one of them:

You can save up to 40% on your health insurance ...

Hope that helps.
Having health insurance is a must!!! I've gone through emergency room visits without and I will tell you it adds up fast with out insurance. After that I tried to find the most affordable plan on my own. Big Mistake! I had no idea what I was doing or even what I really needed. I started looking for brokers to help me out. That's when I ran accross My Insurance Expert. Not only are they free but they do a great job. I say do because after I started working with them and they found a great rate for me, they call me about every six months to make sure there are no changes that would affect my current plan. I never have to talk to an insurance company or deal with all that hassel, because they do all of that for me. Plus I have my own team working for me. All for free! Now I have health insurance and can still afford a normal "American" life. Gotta have my T.V. happy
A friend of mine told me about a site that offer 40% discount on health insurance.I tried this company. They are great. You can check their site.

Great post, informative.

While I was looking for the cheapest price health insurance, a friend of mine told me that there is a site, where people can compair prices from many different insurance companies. All of these companies offer free quotes.

With this site you will save a lot of time searching for the lowest price, because you will get offers from the top rated health insurance companies.

All you have to do is to complete the form and you will receive free quotes.

Great post! I used to get free health care with my last job, but things came up and I had to quit. I did get a new job, but they do not offer the same benefits. I don't really want to buy nc medicare because of how expensive it is, I mean I don't even get sick that often. I am still not sure what I would like to do.
