Although resistance is always rooted in logic or emotion from an individual perspective and is related to an economic term called "utility", resistance degree and cause(s) are related to an organization's makeup and how it is managed.
Without delivering a dissertation, resistance, or the lack thereof, is a function of the following factors and their integration:
- Culture
- Leadership
- Quality System
- Teamwork
- Problem Solving
- Behavioral Skills
- Values/Principles
- Recruiting/Selection
- Personnel Development
My perception is that the article has a bent toward interpersonal communication (a behavioral skill). The need to use this skill may vary greatly across and within organizations, industry sectors, national and international boundaries.
Although project resistance is the result of a sophisticated and complex set of factors, interpersonal skills are needed to keep an organization moving toward the mission and achieving the vision.
(The VALUE project was rewarding.)
