I never knew that a firmware update could increase the wireless power output from the aerial... I would have thought that that would have been controlled by hardware...

Apparently the RADIUS server is available in the Talisman hotspot release.

I am in the process of up grading my Linksys B wireless router. How would a Linksys wireless G router with the Sveasoft firmware compare with the new Linksys SRX or some of the other 'Pre-N' wireless routers that are on the market.
I was having problems getting a signal to one of my computers. I almost purchased the high gain antenna kit. Instead, I downloaded this firmware upgrade and boosted the signal strength. You can even specify which antenna is used for Tx and Rx. Highly recommended for home use.
I stumbled on to this months ago and found that there are other builds that can do other features. Those being:
http://openwrt.org not limited to the linksys routers.
http://www.dd-wrt.com very well written, and thh author is activily importing any comment into the code.

Good points!
Thanks for pointing these out, I will check them out.

Usually the linksys gives to devices such as wifi routers 3year waranty. If you change the firmware this causes immediate end of warranty if it goes for service with another firmware. So keep the old one or a proper firmware for your linksys router from linksys site and put it back if you have a hardware problem, so that you have the waranty instead .
My experience in awmn (athens wireless metropolitan network) that linksys WRT54GS is very popular with all second maker firmwares and most popular the openwrt, that these machines hardware won't break easy in normal and in full use mode. Usually they act their problems from early beginning of use. So I didn't risk much for loosing waranty changing firmware and doing other things with WRT...
And one important tip, before you change in any other firmware change option to bootwait = yes . Saves from destroying the firmware memory and loads the default in the begging if something happens...

Sveasoft's firmware you have to pay for when there are quite a few free custom firmwares available that are the same quality. for a list of custom firmwares that are free, see: http://www.cyberpunkcafe.com/page.php?80
