Setting the warning/critical state alerts saved us on more than one occassion. Set meaningful Free space threshold for each drive, SMTP Queues growth period and Default Microsoft Exchange Services to monitor when any of these services have stopped. For example one of my backup jobs didn't run well and it left temp files (and EOO.logs) behind. Another time when the badmail folder got out of control (now I use badmailadmin scheduled to run every night). Another time one of the IIS services failed to start after a Windows update.

To be honest the warning levels should be set according to the system spec.example is to start with we had a server with 2Gb Ram and 2Gb Virtual Memory. we were getting warning messages every hour with a warning level of 10% and critical of 5%.Now with 4Gb Ram and 3Gb Virtual Ram we have been able to set the warning threshold to 25% and the critical to 10% as there is much more memory available.I think it is a suck it and see job but be realistic with your system specs

As with a lot of these technical news items. It all sounds useful, until you try and implement it. How do I know what values to put in to warn me when virtual memory is low, cpu usage high etc. Aren't there any recommended default numbers?
