I discovered this limitation issue about two months after upgrading the sup modules to sup2 mfsc for a 6509 Cat switch when I ran out of VLANS! Now need to upgrade the sup modules again!

Thats going to come in handy. The network that I administor uses HSRP, and I always have a hard time explaining the concept to clients when they are trying to understand our topoloy. Think I'll keep this someway safe next time I hear the phrase 'Uh? I don't get it...'

This article was meant to be a basic overview of how to use HSRP. Of course, if you look at the picture, there are probably some other questions that come to mind like 1) what about a firewall? What about NAT? 2) do you have to pay for two Internet circuits in this example (yes, probably) and 3) what if you had inbound Internet connections, what sort of routing would be used to have your public IP addresses be on both routers?

But, those are questions for later articles....

I really enjoy the focused method that the format that David uses when writing his articles. They are clear and useful. My biggest question is where I can find more works like his that deal specifically with Cisco products.

Is there a cost benefit analysis done for provisioning network redundancy ?

The ISP assigned a /30. Should the usable IP (3rd IP) be assigned to both router's WAN interface? How about the virtual router? What would be done if you are doing BGP and have 2 /30s?
