I'll be working on a series of articles like this one - starting with the basics and moving into more complex areas. I'd love to hear some of your needs so that they can be covered.

I would love to see something on V and H lookup and information on the XML features of 2003. Specifically, is there a way to enter information in Word and have it update a spreadsheet in Excel?

I've taught myself just a wee bit of Excel programming. Would love to see tutorials on any or all of the following: the VBA interface/environment; the Excel object model; implementing simple algorithms such as looping through an Excel list/database (and stopping the loop at the end of the data).

Thanks in advance...and I love the Excel series!

Great series, thanks for your effort in sharing. I am a Newbi with Excel.

At work, I have been struggling with preparing a multiple worksheet workbook that will use a master worksheet to populate or fill data to subsequent pages.

I have learned some methods, but the one that stumps me is: How do I pull one item (text usually, like a name or ID number) from a range of cells (list? array?) and have it placed in a specific cell on a subsequent worksheet, and have the next item in the range placed in the same cell on ANOTHER worksheet, and so on through the range. I can do it one at a time, but there has to be a faster way!

The workbook will use Master information which changes from time to time. I hope to learn some sort of autofill from a range to locations across multiple worksheets. Then I can populate the workbooks and let others, even less experience than I, have at them.

Thankx, Salty

This download tutorial deals with the fundamentals of Excel formulas. What aspects, functions, commands, and/or features would you like to see covered in future installments of the series? What topics would be most helpful to you?

This article is very good for people who need some basic information to get started using M$ Excel 2003. Equally importantly, and something that is often not true about TR downloads in PDF format, the sizing of the article elements worked very well on my Acrobat Reader. I usually have to increase the zoom level in Acrobat Reader in order to read documents. When I zoomed this document I found that it was still within the width of my screen. This means that I did not have to use a horizontal scroll bar to read each line.

Whatever fonts, sizes, and page width you used to create this PDF file is perfect for me. Thanks.

under the heading of 'cell', i think it should refer to "upper left-hand" rather than "right"

A couple that I would be VERY interested in.

1) Pivot tabels. Trying to summerize some budget data that has category, date and amount. I'm looking for the end results to have Months along the top and categories along the side.

2) Incorporate web links (automatically updating) in cells. For portfolio management, the cells would update with the current stock price and then complete the rest of the calculations for profit, return etc.

Thanks

Jack,

I'm scheduled to write a pivot table piece for this series. And I like the idea of web links... I'll see what I can do!

I need to learn more of the programming aspects and Visual Basic capabilities
TR did in the pass present a data capture window methodologie to help user to data entry properly inforamtion. But I couldn't use it. It was associated with another option (drop-down choice). Both cannot work together.
Can I have a more detail explaination for the two functions seperatly so I can use one for the data entry, the other for analysis.
