I wasn't impressed with OpenOffice. Granted, I downloaded it to see if it had a particular feature that it didn't, and haven't looked at it since. At this point it hasn't been worth it to me to jump into it. Maybe sometime later.

Check you deps for linux carefully and make sure they are properly linked and that you have the newest gcc libs or OOo.org 2.0 will not work!! Also the .RPMs also suffer from the chicken and the egg problem that alot of rpms suffer.. "Can't install pkg a because pkg b not installed, can't install pkg b because file is missing from pkg a!" Literally, if you can find a distro with this wonderful office app installed, that would be your best bet.. Both breezy and the newer dapper releases of ubuntu have 2.0 as part of the standard install... I use OpenOffice 2.0 all the time and it is MUCH better then M$'s offering in my opinion and being a Secretary for Chaplains in the military!?! You bet I know M$!!! wink
SUSE Linux has had OpenOffice.org 2.0 since 9.3 - this is a Novell package that is designed for SUSE Linux. The earlier versions were 1.9.xxx-pre release version that automatically upgrade to 2.0 when you use the YaST Online Update. This is one of the advantages of using a major supplier and doing the "official updates".

The same reliability can be achieved using OpenSUSE 10.0 and adding the recommended installation sources and using YaST Online Updates, usually by enabling SUSE Watcher to be automatically informed of updates, to update software.

Adding the online resources (from OpenSUSE.org, Packman, Novell, etc) as installation sources that are refreshed everytime you use the Software Management Tool means that you have the latest software installed and updated online.

OpenOffice.org 2.0 is an excellent cross-platform office suite that will rapidly become the dominant player if Microsoft keep up their current pricing and strategies.
