on a more mundane level:
I've found over the years, that if you just tell the End User with an obvious hardware problem,
"First, jiggle all the wires."
a significant portion of those problems will magically disappear.
I doubt if that belongs in the studied Top 10, but I belongs right up there on the list ? try it.

When I first saw this, I thought it might be something I could stick on the bulletin board. Ain't gonna happen. I'll be using it as a check list myself, but it'd just give the users I deal with something else to bellyache about. (I really do need to clean out my inbox, now that you mention it.)
