The SX-64 had a few cartridge compatibility problems too. Not enough to keep an avid Commodore user from buying. Picked mine up for $499 on clearance, regularly $999.
The first must do mod, was to install a easier to use reset switch. The next one I did (while repairing the sound), was to install a cut-off switch to allow the drive to be used by an external computer (I had a VIC-20 too).
