wow, most popular thread ever?!
I too thought that once I had my B.S.c I'd be set. Instead I'm on the certification merry go round where I'm not earning enough money bc my certs are out of date, but I don't have the time to certify bc I'm working late all the time. Prob bc I'm working inefficiently bc I don't have all the knowledge that would come with the studying. The interest has dropped off too. People ask me about buying PCs for home and I don't know as much any more or care.
Is there any other industry with such high learning curves? Practically have to start all over every 2.5 years! Career guidance teacher didn't tell me anything about this!
As for small companies well mine has 140 odd people in it (small by corporate standards). We had a bank holiday here in NZ and I spent a few hours today chasing up web guys to sort a problem they created on Friday. I'll never work for a company that has a call centre again! I want my weekends and evenings back. (Can't do server reboots and maintenance bc they need them up, grrr)
