Great article but a faulty analogy I'm afraid. The advantage of a three legged stool (over a four legged one) lies in the inherent stability of a tripod. Uneven leg length or irregular surface conditions that would cause instabilty for a regular chair have much less effect on a tripod. Small detail...sorry
