My boss is from the old school of working on a unix server, programming in cobol. He is good at what he does.
He is HORRIBLE when it comes to setting up a new system because he can't get it in his head how terrible Windows is with resources and how our server from a few years back had 128M of ram on a PentiumPro200 and it fed 100 users, and now to run a XP system with email and a spreadsheet you need 512?
I had to have the user that was crashing (all the time with a P4 3GHz) with all of her applications she NEEDS open at the same time, all day long her stats. She had 256M Ram, but the on-board video was leaching 64M so she is down to 198M available for the system. With her applications open, she was using about 320M of memory. (could that be a problem?)
I dropped another 512 in and you should see that system scream. It can do a complete reboot faster than my system can just shutdown!
