USB-to-serial converters add high-speed ports to tapped-out machines

This is very nice. I have yet to see many peripherals that work well at non standard coms and irqs and very few that work reliably on anything other than com1 and com2. Most setup dialogs don't allow a lot of choices here.

None the less a goodidea if you have peripherals that can support it.

HI I HAVE AN EDGEPORT ANDE IS WORKING PRETY GOOD IN MI SO WINDOWS 2000, BUT I BOUGHT A COMPUTER WITH WINDOWS VISTA AND I WONDER IF THERE ARE THE DRIVERS FOR WINDOWS VISTA OR IF I NEED TO BUY ANOTHER EDGEPORT TO USE MY POWERFULL COMPUTER WITH WINDOWS VISTA

I have an edgeport/2 and have mislaid the driver disc. The edgeport website is a nightmare on my computer as when I try to input the contact section it comes up ooff the side of the screen and the only effective contact tab is sales?? How can I download a new driver please? PN: 301-10000-02. Incidentally the unit was very good on my old computer!

Very good article but those adapters seems awful pricy. I found a good allround USB Serial adapter at www.USconverters.com
