RE: Workarounds for slow network printing
An add-on information to this article. Printing via Microsoft environment in a larger farm usually causing issue such as spooler crashing, high workload on the servers (spooling and rendering) during concurrent large print jobs stuck at the server end.

There are some printing solution (software-based) out there that could significantly reduce such burden at the server side. ThinPrint is a printing solution that provide Driver Free Printing, Adaptive Compression on the print jobs, Bandwidth control (per WAN connection), and streaming (first spooled, first out) features to the users in a SMB environment.

Managing the printing environment is a hard work when come to managing printer drivers and allocating bandwidth for users, especially when the servers are crashing due to high workload and as mentioned above by Brien - slow printing.
