Comments about the "List"
Here are a few deletions and addition I'd make:
3. Platforms supported. No mention of any unix flavor other than Linux. Only Intel based machines need backups? It's usually only the SMB that don't have any unix.
5. Backup to CD or DVD? In todays world where backing up 1 to 2 tb a night is not that uncommon, CD and DVD backups are not feasible. Drop the requirement.
8. Non-techincal end-users doing backups. While this is nice, in reality techincal people are utimately responible to recover lost data. Software should be easy-to-use but don't require it to be clerk-proof.
10. Virus-scanning. All scanning software does this when writes to disk. Why hinder backups when reading it from disk? Many OS's have a hard enough time keeping up with 30+mb/sec tape drives, why slow it down more?
14. Format/retension/clean? I haven't seen this requirement in 4 yrs. Modern drives don't require this.
In the 4 1/2 yrs installing Netbackup speed, reliability and scaliability comes up the most when I ask them why they are replacing their current backup software vendor.
